January 12, 2026 - Report


The United States is currently experiencing its 12th COVID-19 wave. As post-holiday surveillance data become available, estimates indicate a later and higher peak than previously projected, with approximately 1.1 million new infections per day around January 3. In light of sustained high transmission in parts of the Midwest (Indiana, Michigan, Ohio), West Virginia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, this report has been released 2.5 days earlier than planned.
